In April 2022 the Coral Gardeners, a reef restoration team from Mo’orea, French Polynesia, asked me to develop a solar-powered camera system for off-grid reef health monitoring. Within two weeks, we went from design to ocean-proof deployment, sending a livestream from the reef over 4 km WiFi connection back to shore to feed our ReefOS AI algorithm with data to classify fish and evaluate the reef health.
